| Mission
To assure a strong economy and continued employment opportunity for the Pacific Northwest by advocating adoption of balanced energy policies that promote reliable clean energy supplies, sufficient energy infrastructure, energy efficiency and renewable resource development;to empower our members with tools and information to carry our message; to develop political support to advance our mission; and to educate the public on the need for energy policy reform and responsible decision-making grounded in economics and bound by real-world constraints.
THE SIX GUIDING PRINCIPLES OF ENERGY ACTION NORTHWEST
Support for Manufacturing. Energy Action believes that a strong manufacturing sector will continue to play a critical role in providing economic opportunities for the citizens of Oregon and Washington – and that sensible energy policies are vital to the continuing health of our local manufacturers.
Investment in Infrastructure. Energy Action believes that our region will require more energy infrastructure – transmission lines to keep our electric grid reliable, pipelines to deliver natural gas from our traditional supply regions, and at least one Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) terminal. Properly sited, transmission lines, pipelines and a terminal will help our states meet the growing need for energy and inject price competition into markets by providing us access to natural gas supply basins that can only be reached efficiently by carriers and by connecting renewable energy sources to population centers.
Safety with Environmental Respect. Energy Action believes that the electric and natural gas industries in our region must act as partners to meet our region's growing need for energy in a manner that respects environmental stewardship while ensuring safe, reliable and affordable energy at work and at home.
Reliable and Affordable Renewables. Energy Action believes that we must develop renewable energy sources with an eye to their reliability and affordability. Securing access to abundant natural gas supplies at competitive prices will allow our region to rely more heavily on renewable energy, thereby enabling us to replace coal and crude oil sooner without jeopardizing the reliability of the grid or forcing energy consumers to pay exorbitant prices.
Task-appropriate Energy Sources. Energy Action believes that our region should embrace and enact polices that help bring the right energy source to the right task. Combined heat and power (CHP) facilities inside our manufacturing plants, biomass and waste-to-energy projects should be encouraged due to their high efficiency and their ability to deliver reliable power to where the power is needed.
Promotion of Energy Efficiency. Energy Action believes that investment in all forms of energy efficiency is critically important. Reduced overall consumption, direct use of natural gas for space and water heating, and intelligent use in the transportation sector are among the energy conservation priorities that are an essential part of a rational energy policy.
